Participant Points Experience

This article describes what participants see and do with Points during an Event. It is written for organizers who want to anticipate participant experience, and for participants who want to understand how Points work.

If your Event uses a different label for Points (Stamps, Stars, Coins, etc.), substitute it throughout. The experience is the same.

Where participants see their Points

Participants see their current total on their Digital Badge in the Mobile App. To open the badge:

  1. Open the Event in the Mobile App
  2. Go to the main details page
  3. Tap the green Attending button to open the Digital Badge

The Point total appears as part of the badge. As Points accrue, the total updates.

For more on the badge, see Digital Badges.

How participants earn Points

There are several paths, depending on what the organizer configured:

Path What the participant does
App adoption Logs in to the Mobile App for this Event
Profile completion Uploads a profile photo
Messaging Posts in the Event Feed or an Activity Room
Custom QR scans Finds and scans organizer-placed QR codes around the Event

Each action's Point value is configured by the organizer for this Event. The Mobile App typically confirms the award immediately after a Point-earning action.

Scanning a custom QR code

To scan a Point-earning QR code:

  1. Open the Event in the Mobile App
  2. Find the Scan option — typically on the Digital Badge or via the Floating Action Button on the main details page
  3. Allow the Mobile App access to the device's camera (the first time only)
  4. Point the camera at the QR code
  5. The Mobile App confirms the scan and the Points awarded

If a scan does not register, try again with the QR clearly framed and in good light. A poorly lit or partially obscured QR may not decode.

When Points appear, and when they don't

  • Online — Points appear within seconds of the earning action
  • Offline — scan-based Points may be deferred until the device reconnects
  • If a participant does not see Points after performing an action they expected to earn for, the most common cause is connectivity

If Points still do not appear after the device reconnects and the Mobile App is reopened, ask the organizer whether the action was actually configured to award Points.

What Points are not

  • Points are not currency — they do not pay for anything within Eventene
  • Points are not transferable between participants
  • Points are not refundable — once earned, they remain unless the organizer manually adjusts
  • Points are scoped per Event — what a participant earns at one Event does not automatically carry into the next Event

Common participant questions

Why do I have fewer Points than someone else? The organizer configured several ways to earn Points. The other participant likely did some of those actions you have not done yet — for example, they posted in the Event Feed, uploaded a profile photo, or scanned a code you have not found.

The label says "Stamps" or "Stars" instead of "Points." The organizer renamed the label for this Event. Same concept; different word.

The Scan option asked for camera access. Is that safe? The Mobile App uses the camera only to read QR codes; it does not record or store images.

I scanned a code but didn't get any Points. First, confirm the device is online. If it was offline at the time, the scan should sync once you reconnect. If Points still do not appear, the QR may not be configured to award Points — it might be a participant's own badge QR or a Lead capture QR, not a Points QR.

Can I see what I scanned previously? The Mobile App shows your current total, not a detailed scan history. The organizer can see this view through Track.

Can someone else earn Points by scanning my badge? No. Your badge QR identifies you, not a Point-earning action. The QRs that award Points are organizer-placed codes for participants to find and scan.
