Registration Style

Registration Style is one of the most important choices you make when setting up an event. It determines whether your event behaves like a structured schedule that participants attend as a whole, or a sign-up program where participants pick and choose activities.

You'll find this setting on the Details tab of your event, just below Determine Attendance.

The Two Styles

Structured Schedule

Choose Structured Schedule when participants are attending the overall event and the activities are part of the schedule. The event itself is the primary thing people register for; activities are sessions, blocks, or meetings within it.

Use this style for:

  • Conferences
  • Retreats
  • Camps
  • Conventions
  • Trainings, summits, and other programs where the whole event is the main attendance object

In this style:

  • Participants register for the event as a whole.
  • Each scheduled activity can collect a response (e.g. yes/no for an optional breakout) where applicable.
  • Activities and the overall event are tightly linked — the event is the container.

Optional Activity Sign-Ups

Choose Optional Activity Sign-Ups when participants selectively sign up for individual activities inside the event. The activities are the primary thing people sign up for; the event is a container that groups them.

Use this style for:

  • Tennis clinics
  • Fitness classes
  • Workshops
  • Recurring drop-in sessions
  • League play, lessons, and other programs where activities are the primary sign-up objects

In this style:

  • Participants pick the activities they want to attend; they aren't required to sign up for every one.
  • Attendance is tracked per activity, not for the event as a whole.
  • The event serves as a season, term, or schedule containing many independent sign-up opportunities.

How to Decide

Ask yourself: what is the participant really registering for?

  • If they're registering for the event and activities are the program inside it → Structured Schedule.
  • If they're registering for specific activities and the event is just the container → Optional Activity Sign-Ups.

This choice shapes how you should think about activities, attendance, and the participant's registration journey.

What This Setting Affects

  • Participant experience during registration: how activities appear and whether responses to each one are expected.
  • Attendance tracking: whether attendance is centered on the event or on individual activities.
  • Communication and reminders: the framing of messages sent to participants about attendance.

It does not change the underlying data your event has collected — you can revisit the choice if your program's structure changes — but it does change how organizers and participants should think about the event.

  2. Go to the Details tab.
