Digital Badges
A Digital Badge is each participant's identity artifact in the Mobile App. It is the participant's "credential" for an Event — what they show (digitally or via QR code) to check in, earn Points, or get scanned at a sponsor table.
What a Digital Badge contains
A participant's Digital Badge typically shows:
- Full name (per Persona)
- Profile photo (if the participant has added one)
- QR code — unique to that participant for this Event
- Points total (for Events with Points enabled)
Each Persona on a shared account has their own Digital Badge. A parent and child sharing one account email each see their own badge when they switch Personas.
The Profile Visibility setting — which controls whether the participant appears in the Event's attendee directory and can be reached by Direct Message — lives in the Mobile App's Account Settings, not on the badge itself. Profile Visibility is per-account (not per-Persona): turning it off hides all Personas on the account.
Where participants find their Digital Badge
In the Mobile App, with the Event selected:
- Open the Event's main Details page
- Tap the green Attending button (visible once the participant is Attending the Event)
The Digital Badge opens as a card with the participant's name, photo, QR code, and Profile Visibility toggle. Tapping the photo enlarges it; tapping the QR code typically enlarges it for scanning.
How organizers use Digital Badges
Organizers and Event Staff use Digital Badges for runtime coordination:
- Check-in by QR code — scan a participant's badge to mark them Attending an Activity
- Lead capture — Collectors at sponsor tables scan participant badges to record leads
- Points scanning — in some Events, participants scan organizer-placed QR codes to earn points; the participant's own QR identifies them
The QR code is unique per participant per Event. Organizers can also pre-print physical badges from Track using each participant's QR code, for events that expect connectivity or device problems.
Profile Visibility
Profile Visibility is an account-level setting in the Mobile App's Account Settings. When on:
- The participant's name and photo appear in Event attendee directories (where the organizer has made them public)
- Other participants can initiate Direct Messages
When off:
- The participant does not appear in peer-visible attendee directories
- Other participants cannot start new Direct Messages
A few things to know about how this setting behaves:
- It applies to all Personas on the account (it's not per-Persona)
- It persists across Events (it's not per-Event)
- It is settable only in the Mobile App (not in Webforms)
- It controls peer visibility only — organizers and Event Staff can still see the participant for event management purposes
- Mid-Event changes propagate to other devices on their next refresh, not instantly
- Existing Direct Message chats from before Visibility was turned off remain accessible to both parties
What is not on the Badge
The participant's account email (the one used to sign in) is not displayed on the Digital Badge to other participants. Only the participant themselves and the organizer can see the account email.
If you want a public-facing email for participants — for example, a contact email on speaker badges — add a Custom Field with the email type and a name other than "Email" (such as "Contact Email"). The Custom Field can be marked Public and will appear on the participant's profile to other attendees.
