How Points Work in Eventene

Points are Eventene's engagement reward system. Organizers configure participant actions that earn Points; participants accumulate them as they engage with the Event; everyone can see the current total on the participant's Digital Badge.

Points are a runtime feature. Once enabled, Points accrue during the Event lifecycle — primarily through Mobile App actions.

What Points are for

Points reward engagement. Common patterns:

  • Encouraging app adoption — award Points for installing the Mobile App and logging in
  • Encouraging messaging participation — award Points for posting in the Event Feed or Activity Rooms
  • Encouraging exploration — place Point-bearing QR codes at sponsor booths, sessions, or specific Event locations
  • Encouraging staff coverage — award Points to Event Staff who run check-in
  • Encouraging profile completeness — award Points for uploading a profile photo

The end state is usually a leaderboard, prize threshold, or simple recognition of high-engagement participants at closing.

Points are an engagement primitive, not a payment system. They have no monetary value and do not interact with Orders, Products, or Stripe.

Configurable point-earning actions

Organizers configure which actions earn Points and how many. Definable actions include:

  • Logging into the Mobile App for the Event
  • Uploading a profile photo
  • Posting messages in chat (Event Feed, Activity Rooms, Direct Messages)
  • Scanning custom QR codes placed by the organizer
  • Checking in attendees — an organizer/staff action that can earn Points for the person running check-in

The specific list of actions used and the Point values per action are configured per Event.

Custom QR codes

A central design element of Points is the custom QR code. Organizers create QR codes that, when scanned by a participant from the Mobile App, award Points.

These are different from participant Digital Badge QR codes. A participant's badge identifies that participant; a custom QR code for Points is an object the organizer places around the Event for participants to find and scan.

For broader scanning context, see QR Codes & Scanning in Eventene.

Renaming "Points"

Organizers can rename the term Points per Event. The Mobile App and the participant's Digital Badge use whatever label the organizer chose. Common alternatives:

  • Stamps — for passport-style scavenger hunts
  • Coins, Stars, Tokens — generic reward labels
  • Domain-specific labels (e.g., "Doubloons" at a pirate-themed Event)

Be careful with the word Credits — that term has another meaning in Eventene's Payments system. Pick a different label.

This article uses Points throughout. If your Event uses a different label, substitute as you read.

Where Points appear

  • On a participant's Digital Badge in the Mobile App — current total
  • In the Mobile App's scan flow — confirms the Point award immediately after a scan
  • In Track — organizers can see who has accumulated what

How Points relate to other Eventene systems

System Relationship
Mobile App Points are earned and displayed in the Mobile App
Digital Badge The participant's badge shows their current Point total
Activities A custom QR code can be tied to a specific Activity for organizer reporting
Messaging Posting in the Event Feed or an Activity Room can be a Point-earning action
Track Organizers review Point totals through Track
Lead Generation A distinct system — Lead capture is sponsor-driven; Points is participant-driven engagement

Strategic value

For Events where engagement matters, Points serve as a structured way to:

  • Surface the most engaged participants
  • Encourage Mobile App adoption (without which participants may default to email-only interaction)
  • Drive foot traffic to booths, sessions, or activities you want highlighted
  • Reward consistent participation in visible ways

Most successful Point programs keep the rules simple and visible. Participants who cannot tell what earns Points typically do not try.
