Enable & Configure the Messaging Center

The Messaging Center is off by default for every Event. Organizers turn it on per Event, then turn on individual Activity Rooms as needed.

Before you start

  • The Messaging Center requires a Pro or Premier organization subscription. Standard and Free accounts cannot enable it. To change your subscription, see Upgrade or Downgrade Your Plan.
  • The Messaging Center appears only in the Eventene Mobile App. Participants registering through Webforms will not see the Event Feed, Activity Rooms, or Direct Messages.

Step 1: Turn on messaging for the Event

  1. Open your Event in the Web App
  2. Click the pencil icon in the Event header to open Edit Event
  3. Find Allow Event Feed and Chat Messaging
  4. Set it to On
  5. Save

After this, your Event has an active Event Feed. Participants who have the Mobile App and the Event selected will see a Messages icon in the bottom tab bar.

Step 2: Turn on Rooms for selected Activities

Each Activity can optionally have its own chat Room. Rooms are off by default.

  1. Open the Activity from the Event's Activities tab
  2. In Edit Activity, find Allow Chat Messaging
  3. Set it to On
  4. Save

The Allow Chat Messaging setting on an Activity only appears after you have turned on Allow Event Feed and Chat Messaging at the Event level.

Limits to keep in mind

  • You can enable Rooms on at most 15 Activities per Event. Choose Rooms for the Activities where conversation will be most useful — typically workshops, team coordination, and Q&A-heavy sessions.
  • Each Room is visible only to participants in the Group(s) that the Activity references.

What participants will see

Once enabled, participants with the Mobile App and the Event selected see:

  • A new Messages icon in the bottom tab bar
  • A Feed tab visible to all participants
  • A Rooms tab listing the Activity Rooms they have access to
  • A Direct Messages option, available by long-pressing a name in any chat or by tapping Chat on a participant's profile

Participants without the Mobile App will not see the Messaging Center. They will continue to receive email communications normally.

Turning messaging off

You can turn the Messaging Center off at any time:

  • For one Activity Room — turn off Allow Chat Messaging on that Activity
  • For the whole Event — turn off Allow Event Feed and Chat Messaging in Edit Event

Existing messages remain accessible to organizers; participants stop seeing the affected surfaces.

Common questions

A participant says they don't see the Messages tab — what's wrong? The Messages tab appears only when (1) the Event has Allow Event Feed and Chat Messaging turned on, (2) the participant is using the Eventene Mobile App, and (3) the participant has the right Event selected. The Webform does not include the Messaging Center.

Can I enable Rooms on more than 15 Activities? No. You can have Rooms on up to 15 Activities per Event. If you have more Activities, choose where conversation will be most useful.

Will participants on Standard or Free see anything different? The setting Allow Event Feed and Chat Messaging is only available on Pro and Premier subscriptions. On Standard or Free accounts, the Messaging Center is not available to enable.
